What is the Shop Floor Control process in an ERP system?

blog

It is an important process for managing and controlling production activity in the factory, helping operations run efficiently and enabling production status to be tracked accurately.

The Shop Floor Control process in an ERP system consists of several steps, as follows.

1. Production Planning

Planning production to define the quantity and duration of production, using data from orders and forecasts of customer demand.

2. Preparing the raw materials and resources needed for production

  • Work Order Creation
  • Creating a production order, or Work Order (WO), which specifies details about the product to be produced, the production process, and the resources used.
  • Assigning a work order number for use in tracking production status.

3. Resource Management

  • Managing the resources used in production, such as machinery, raw materials, and labour.
  • Checking resource availability and allocating resources appropriately.

4. Production Execution

  • Carrying out the issued production order, such as starting production, adjusting the process, and quality inspection.
  • Recording operational data, such as production time, production quantity, and problems that arise.

Quality Control:

  • Inspecting product quality at each stage of production.
  • Recording quality data and handling products that do not meet standards.

5. Production Tracking

  • Tracking production status in real time, such as the status of the work order, the quantity completed, and the time taken to produce.
  • Reporting production status to executives and the relevant team.
  • Continuous Improvement.
  • Analysing production data to find points that can be improved.
  • Proposing approaches and measures to improve the production process to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

The Shop Floor Control module in the system helps an organisation control and manage the production process efficiently, enabling it to respond better to customer needs, reduce production time, and reduce operating costs.
