The challenges an organisation faces when implementing an ERP

blog

Implementing an ERP in an organisation comes with a variety of challenges to face. The main issues an organisation faces when implementing an ERP are as follows:

1. Insufficient planning and preparation

A lack of clear requirements analysis, along with failing to plan suitable resources and time to support the change to the organisation’s internal work processes.

2. Employee resistance to moving to the ERP

Employees do not want to adapt and do not cooperate in understanding the new system.

3. Choosing the ERP vendor

Having too little information leads to choosing a vendor that is not suited to the organisation’s needs.

4. Not understanding the details of the service contract

The complexity of negotiating the contract and setting the service agreement, including technical-support and system-integration terms from the ERP vendor.

5. Integrating the ERP with existing systems

You may run into problems with software and hardware compatibility, data management, and security.

6. Migrating data from the old system to the new one

You should have an approach to protecting data and keeping it secure within the system, and provide training so employees gain expert-level skills in using the ERP.

7. Controlling budget and time

ERP implementation should manage the project to finish within the set time and control the budget at a level the organisation can manage — don’t let it spiral. You should also monitor and improve the system after implementation.

In addition, the system should be improved and updated to keep pace with needs that change with today’s business conditions.
