3 factors you must know for implementing an ERP
blog
When an organisation wants to implement an ERP, there is of course a great deal of information it must research and compare to find the best answer for itself.
This article discusses 3 basic factors you must know for implementing an ERP. The 3 factors are:
- The human-resource factor
- The IT-resource factor
- The time factor
The details of these 3 factors are as follows:
1. The human-resource factor
Preparing the human-resource side for an ERP implementation is very important,
because using an ERP in an organisation will never reach full efficiency if it does not get full cooperation from the organisation’s own staff.
Getting that full cooperation from staff starts with communicating so that staff understand what the benefits of using an ERP are,
as well as how the ERP makes staff’s work faster and easier.
If the organisation can communicate well with its staff, staff cooperation in using the ERP will follow,
and the organisation will then be able to use the ERP at full efficiency.
2. The IT-resource factor
Implementing an ERP requires a variety of IT resources for the project to succeed and to work at full efficiency.
Examples of the important IT resources often used in implementing an ERP include:
An ERP administrator, who is the key person helping the ERP keep running and providing help to users who have trouble accessing the system.
Another important IT resource is an efficient database — a key space used to store data related to the business, such as customer data, financial data, and stock data.
3. The time factor
The ERP-implementation process takes time, from the first step to the last — whether that is arranging a system demonstration, sending a quotation request, analysing and comparing ERP providers’ features, beginning the implementation, training staff to use the ERP, through to the Go Live step.
So implementing an ERP requires investing not only budget but also time. Time is therefore another condition to consider in implementing an ERP.
In summary, the 3 factors to understand for implementing an ERP are the human-resource factor, the IT-resource factor, and the time factor. All three of these greatly affect the implementation and the subsequent use of the ERP.
If the organisation has prepared for all 3 of these factors, its ERP implementation has a very good chance of success.
